Former AP writer dies at 85

Ralph Bernstein, who was known for his difficult questions to both coaches and players of Philadelphia teams for almost 50 years, died this past Saturday of cancer. Ralph Bernstein was very well liked and respected for his knowledge and his fervor.

    Sorry to hear about Ralph. I used to love reading his coverage of Big 5 basketball and the Phillies.

    He was light-years away from most of today’s sports journalists who serve as sycophants and shills for today’s star players and owners.

    Ralph was a marvelous writer and an interviewer who dealt in substance, not fluff.

    He’ll probably have some tough questions for whoever is running heaven when he gets there.
